Homestead Blog, Healthy Food, Christian Women's Blog

Welcome!

I’m honored that you’ve stopped by for a visit In My Small Corner today! I’m glad to have you here! Pull up a chair…or, better yet, let’s go for a little walk around the place.

I’m Maggie, just a country girl from Alabama, who is gratefully saved by the grace of God through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. I love to share through writing and this little space is just perfect for sharing bits and pieces of life. My dad had a close friend in school named Sam. Sam’s wise mother encouraged him to “do projects and write about them.” My wise Daddy has encouraged me to do the same. So that’s what I hope to do!

What projects might you expect to find In My Small Corner?

Well, because I am a country girl, gardening and the homestead lifestyle have always been a part of my world. I have a keen interest in stewarding the earth and growing healthy food for our bodies. My family and I recently moved (4 miles!) to a new home-sweet-home, where we have a new plot of earth to start caring for from the ground up. I’m excited to share the experience with you as we create our new garden and integrate other projects, such as our laying flock, honeybees, and a fruit tree nursery.

I work at home, doing website design and customer service for a small business that I love! I also work as a “daughter homemaker,” working alongside my mother and sister to make our family’s house a home where we can rest, work, and enjoy being together. You’ll often find me in the kitchen! Creating meals from scratch, homegrown food, and a lot of love brings folks together – and I love bringing folks together! I look forward to sharing recipes for real food that fit well into our home and family.

Being in the sewing room, creating with beautiful fabric, is another one of my happy places. My preferred craft is quilting and I love to combine both machine and hand quilting for enjoyable projects that fit my available time.

Speaking of time, planners and time management are two other things I am pumped about! I am a “recovering perfectionist,” having learned that, though precision in my work is excellent, making progress is more important than doing everything perfectly. This has been a life-giving discovery!

The Purpose

As I mentioned above, way beyond any of this, I am a sinner, saved by the grace of God through the blood of His only begotten Son, my Savior Jesus Christ. He is my life. I believe God’s Word is just as true today as when it was first given to us and I desire to obey Him and love Him with every area of my life. When writing or talking with folks, I love to get into topics with eternal impact. It is my hope and prayer that this blog brings glory to Him and encourages you to follow after Jesus as well!

The name of this blog comes from a cheerful hymn that I love to sing called “Jesus Bids Us Shine,” written by Susan Warner and published in 1868. A couple verses go like this:

Jesus bids us shine, with a clear, pure light,
Like a little candle burning in the night;
In this world of darkness we must shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.

Jesus bids us shine, as we work for Him,
Bringing those that wander from the paths of sin;
He will ever help us, if we shine,
You in your small corner, and I in mine.

This is my vision – to use this little corner, the daily work I do, the words I write and speak to shine Jesus’ light and love. I’ll be sharing more about what He’s done in my life throughout the blog. I would love to hear from you…what’s going on in your small corner? God bless you!

Because of Jesus,
Maggie
