One fine evening found me out in the nursery, watering thirsty plants. The clouds were arranged in horizontal layers in the western sky and each layer was illuminated in a gorgeous peach-pink glow. I lifted the spray wand, on the shower setting, to reach across another row of plants. As I did, the cascade of water drops caught a reflection from the sunset – and the whole shower glowed peach-pink.
It was such a simple, normal thing, but it struck me profoundly…God made water to reflect light and color. Why? Is there some highly involved reason? Or is it enough to know that it just adds beauty everywhere – to every dew-filled morning, to every pond, to every waterfall? It proclaims His handiwork, the One who is worthy of all praise!
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.” (Psalm 19:1-4)
Later, on my way to the house, the lightening bugs had come out for the evening and my amazement returned. Why did God create a little insect that blinks in the evening…adding beauty and wonder to anywhere…and all for free? All we have to do is enjoy the show!
Why do birds sing different songs? Why do flowers bloom in such diversity? Why do spiders weave different types of webs? Why do the colors and cloud patterns of sunset and sunrise change each day? Are they not also participants, even silently, in the pulse of praise – where all created things exist to the praise and glory of our Creator God?! Even when we aren’t aware, it’s going on all around us, within us, among us….
Thank you for joining me today in noticing and sharing in the praise to Almighty God! To echo the Song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32 – “Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.” Hallelujah!
I’d love to know…What have you been noticing this spring? Is there a special Psalm or song of praise on your heart?
Because of Jesus,

May 15, 2025 at 11:21 amI loved reading your reflections on our Father’s marvelous creation! Amen and amen! I’ve been noticing all the vibrant colors this spring – the lush green grass, the different blooming flowers, vibrant blue skies, breathtaking hues of pinks and orange in the evening skies, etc. All painted/designed by our glorious Creator! 😍 A song that came to my mind as I was reading this is a hymn of praise – “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation! All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near; join me in glad adoration!”
